Hapag-Lloyd gains a foothold at Tanger Med

The world’s fifth largest container shipping firm, hitherto far less present at terminals than its competitors Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM and Cosco, has acquired a stake in Terminal 3 at Tanger Med, a plan first revealed by Jeune Afrique Business+ in November 2018.

The current shareholders, the Moroccan port authority Marsa Maroc and German group Eurokai-Eurogate with its subsidiary Contship Italia, have ceded 10% to Hapag-Lloyd. Marsa Maroc retains a 50% share and Eurokai 40%. This terminal, previously known as Marsa International Tangiers Terminals (MINTT) will operate as Tanger Alliance Terminal (TAT).
