Under the name of DP World Berbera, the giant Emirati port operator has owned since 2016 – according to the terms of an agreement finalised in 2017 – the majority share (51%) in the single quay port of Berbera, alongside the self-declared Republic of Somaliland (30%) and Ethiopia Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise (ESL) which acquired a 19% stake in 2018.
