Following the restructuring of public enterprises in the telecom sector, Benin has brought together its infrastructure and equipment in the Société Béninoise d’Infrastructures Numériques (SBIN). It is now preparing to award a management contract for their operations. Eight groups are in the running. The decision is expected in the first quarter of 2020.

After deciding in June 2017 to restructure public companies in the telecoms sector, Benin has been overseeing a selection process for the management of the state company for digital infrastructure (Société Béninoise d’Infrastructures Numériques- SBIN) since October. SBIN inherited the assets of Bénin Télécom infrastructures (BTI) which comprise the national broadband backbone, voice services and a data centre currently under construction, as well as the rights to the SAT-3 and ACE submarine cables.
