AVZ Minerals still awaiting Canberra’s go-ahead for Yibin Tianyi’s (CATL) equity investment

The company, which is capitalised at AU$136m on ASX and which is involved in the Manono lithium-tin project in eastern DR Congo, expects a decision by the end of the month. However, AVZ notes that the Australian government has just prevented Chinese giant Baogang Group Investments from investing in Australia’s Northern Minerals and its rare earths project.

The Foreign Investment Review Board’s final decision on the Baogang/Northern Minerals case is in line with the Australian government’s desire to work more closely with the Americans, reducing their imports of Chinese strategic metals and securing new sources of supply.
