For this new contract, the African Development Bank (AfDB) received six bids, almost exclusively from companies controlled by Beijing. China Electric Power Equipment and Technology (CET), a branch of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), was the eventual victor in the race for Phase 1, which concerns the supply and installation of the Addis Ababa electricity distribution and transmission system.
