Congo’s Avima Iron Ore in advanced discussions with steelmakers

The iron ore mining site, whose opening has been delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic, is expected to launch operations in the first quarter of 2021. The mine will use, via a road link, the Cameroonian port of Kribi for export, pending the launch of a $2.2bn railway line.

“We are being approached by steel customers of all types who say they are ready to enter into commercial contracts as soon as operations begin,” Socrates Vasiliades, CEO of Avima Iron Ore Limited, the company behind the major Avima iron ore project in north-west Congo-Brazzaville, told Jeune Afrique Business+.
