Michael Foley arrived 18 months ago at the head of the group’s French-speaking African entity—turnover $964 million for FY21—and leads a squad of seven experienced general managers. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, the Quebec-based manager spent 12 years managing various subsidiaries of the Telenor group in Pakistan, Norway, Bulgaria and Bangladesh. A graduate in psychology from McGill University, Montreal, the veteran executive was approached in December 2019 by Raghunath Mandava, CEO of Airtel Africa, who will hand over to Nigerian Segun Ogunsanya on 1 October 2021.
